All Limestone students eligible for free bus pass

All registered Limestone students are now eligible to ride for free on Kingston Transit thanks to an expanded partnership with the City of Kingston.

Grade 9 to 12 students enrolled in Limestone schools are eligible for a free Kingston Transit Pass to encourage them to ride the bus to access recreational programs, volunteer opportunities, jobs or school programs through a partnership with the City of Kingston. The free bus passes were first offered to Grade 9 students in 2012-2013 and has since been expanded to include both Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 students. The City recently extended its free transit pass program to include intermediate students (Grade 7 & 8). The City already allows for children age 12 and under to ride for free with an adult.

Children age 14 and under (Kindergarten to Grade 8):

Children age 14 and under can travel with Kingston Transit free of charge. Children 14 and under do not require a bus pass, identification or to travel with an adult. Children 14 and under are to advise the bus operator of their age prior to boarding.

Secondary Students (Grades 9-12):

The free Kingston Transit pass is available to Grade 9 to 12 students attending a high school in the city of Kingston. Eligible Limestone high schools include:
  • Bayridge Secondary School
  • Ernestown Secondary School
  • Frontenac Secondary School
  • Kingston Collegiate & Vocational Institute (KCVI)
  • LaSalle Secondary School
  • Loyalist Collegiate & Vocational Institute (LCVI)
Students may obtain their Kingston Transit photo ID bus pass at City Hall, 216 Ontario St. or the Guest Services Desk at the Cataraqui Centre, 945 Gardiners Rd.
Students will need:
  • A birth certificate and a valid Grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 student timetable, OR
  • A valid student photo ID card for the coming school year
The Transit passes are valid from September 1 to August 31. There is a $3 fee for the initial Photo ID bus card (except new Grade 9 students) and a $3 fee for a replacement card applicable to all high school students.

How to use a Transit Pass:

To use the Kingston Transit service, students are required to tap their valid transit pass on the fare box to board the bus.
