Student Councils play a vital role in providing a student voice within our schools. Students are able to share their ideas on issues within our schools as well as provide leadership to initiatives that help make our schools safer, education focused and fun. Each Student Council has staff advisors who help support council members.
Each Limestone secondary schools has a Student Council which is comprised of appointed and elected representatives of the student body. Students fill the position of co-presidents, treasurer, activity coordinators, grade representatives and many more as a part of the student governing body.
If you would like to become involved in your school's Student Council, please contact the Principal or Vice Principal at your school for more information, or a guidance counsellor who can direct you to members of the current Student Council.
The Limestone District School Board InterSchool Council is comprised of representatives of all secondary schools within the district. Each month, Student Council Presidents from each school meet to share best practices, fundraising ideas, as well as work toward a large-scale joint event.
The InterSchool Council provides a student voice to our school board. Students at individual schools have the opportunity to bring forward suggestions at the Board level via two elected Student Trustees who participate in monthly Board meetings alongside the elected Board Trustees. One rural and one urban Student Trustee run the Interschool Council meetings. Student Trustees are permitted to vote at Board meeting, however, their votes are non-binding.
The Interschool Council also organizes district-wide events such as Coffee Houses and arts functions (Lime-Aid). The Council also participates in various fundraising initiatives, and has contributed to the Food Sharing Project.
The position of Student Trustee will be open to all senior students of the Limestone District School Board who meet the eligibility criteria listed on the Student Trustee Application Form. This policy extends the candidacy to not only the highest two ranking officials of the respective school student council, but to any senior student in Grade 10 or 11, and returning Grade 12 students.
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for the next academic year, and submit a completed application prior to the election. The election will be held at the regular meeting of the Limestone Interschool Council from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday May 9th, 2017 at Loyalist C.V.I., 153 Van Order Drive. Candidates must also prepare a speech not exceeding two minutes to present to the incoming and outgoing members of the council.
