The Skills Ontario Competition is Canada's largest skilled trade and technology competition and featured more than 2,000 student competitors in elementary, secondary and post-secondary competitions.

Limestone had 38 elementary and 19 secondary students move on to the provincial stage following the local Limestone Skills Competition and some regional competitions in April.

Congratulations to Liam Alford, a Grade 12 student from Napanee District Secondary School, for winning a bronze medal in the secondary Auto Paint competition. Liam’s challenge was to demonstrate, through practical and theoretical application, his skills and task knowledge in the industry relevant to: basic skills relevant to surface preparation, colour matching, painting and polishing; knowledge of and application of applicable health and safety regulations; adjusting and checking of safety/operating equipment; and problem solving in relation to painting.

Elementary teams also earned bronze medals in Lego Mechanics.

Module de l’Acadie students Sam Clair, Christian Munroe and Samantha Daly earned a bronze medal in the Grade 7/8 Lego Mechanics category. In this category, competitors were required to demonstrate both through practical and theoretical application, their skills and task knowledge in the industry. These skills must be relevant to: simple mechanical design and construction using LEGO Components; problem solving in relation to a given case; and skills and knowledge of reading, drawings, building LEGO models and presentation skills.

Congratulations to Welborne Public School’s Charlotte Ball, Melissa Barz, Thomas Picard and Jaxson Arbeau for their bronze medal, also in Lego Mechanics.

The Limestone District School Board is situated on traditional territories of the Anishinaabe & Haudenosaunee.
