Dear families:

Unfortunately, I have to share a disappointing update. We had hoped a fair, and mutually agreeable resolution would occur, but it is our understanding that the mediated, provincial negotiations between the provincial government and CUPE have concluded at this point, and CUPE will proceed with a full withdrawal of services for an indefinite period of time.

Consequently, all schools and buildings are closed to students and the public starting tomorrow (Friday, November 4) and currently it appears this may extend into the start of next week at minimum. Student supervision, health, and safety are our top priorities and without the critical roles and services of about 750 CUPE employees, we cannot guarantee learning environments remain safe and clean for all students.

Tomorrow, learning will be asynchronous for students from home, with educators posting assignments/tasks to complete through an online platform or through different formats received today.
This situation is very fluid, and we are collectively dealing with evolving circumstances. Limestone will continue to update families (direct e-mail, website, and social media) with respect to educational programming as circumstances continue to unfold. We appreciate your continuing patience and understanding.

Thank you,

Krishna Burra
Director of Education
