Positive Case of COVID-19 Week of Nov. 29

KFL&A Public Health has notified the Limestone District School Board of positive cases of COVID-19 at the following area schools for the week of November 29 - December 5, 2021:

  • One student at Winston Churchill Public School on Dec. 4: one cohort has been directed to isolate. The school remains open.
  • One student at Storrington Public School on Dec. 4: one cohort has been directed to isolate. The school remains open.
  • One staff member at LDSB Educational Services on Dec. 4: no risk to students or staff. Services continue as usual.
  • One other at Central Public School on Dec. 3: no risk to students or staff. School remains open.
  • One student at LaSalle Intermediate and Secondary School on Dec. 3, 2021: one cohort was directed to isolate. The school remains open.
  • One staff member at Bayridge Secondary School on Dec. 3, 2021: No risk to students or staff. The school remains open.
  • One student at Calvin Park Public School on Dec. 3, 2021: one cohort was directed to isolate. The school remains open.
  • One student at Kingston Secondary School on Dec. 3, 2021: four cohorts were directed to isolate. The school remains open.
  • One student at LCVI tested on Dec. 2, 2021. This student was already isolating, so there is no new impact on the school community. The school remains open.
  • One student at J.G. Simcoe Public School on Dec. 4: cohort was already isolating. One student on Dec. 3 and one student on Dec. 2: two cohorts have been directed to isolate. This brings the current total cases at the school to five. The school remains in outbreak, however, not all cases are linked to the outbreak. The school remains open.
  • Two students at Katarokwi Learning Centre on Dec. 1: one cohort has been directed to isolate. The school remains open.
  • One student at Centennial Public School on Dec. 4: one new cohort has been directed to isolate. Two students on Dec. 1: one new cohort has been directed to isolate. Public Health declared an outbreak on Nov. 20, 2021. This remains in effect. The school remains open, and visitors are restricted at this time. 
  • KFL&A Public Health declared an outbreak at Polson Park Public School on Dec. 4 following the identification of two additional student cases in the same cohort. These cases were already isolating. The school remains open but visitors are restricted at this time. A previous case was identified in a student on Dec. 1 which resulted in one cohort being directed to self-isolate. This brings the total number of cases at the school to four.
  • KFL&A Public Health declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at Lord Strathcona Public School on Nov. 30. One positive case in a student on Dec. 2: Case was already isolating. One positive case in a student on Dec. 1: One class cohort has been dismissed with direction to self-isolate. There are currently seven active cases and two class cohorts related to the school. The school remains open and visitors are restricted at this time.
  • Two cases in students at Molly Brant Elementary School on Dec. 1: these cases were already isolating. Three cases in students on Nov. 30: two cases are already isolating and one case has resulted in one class cohort being directed to isolate. Total number of cases at the school is now 14 and the school remains in outbreak. The school is open and visitors are restricted at this time.
  • Three students at Welborne Avenue Public School on Dec. 4: one case was already isolating and two required two cohort dismissals. Three students on Dec. 2: these cases were already isolating. Three students on Dec. 1: two additional cohorts have been directed to isolate. This brings the current total cases at the school to 13. At this time, there are a total of  class cohorts isolating.
  • One student at J.R Henderson Public School on Dec. 3: case was already isolating. One student student on Dec. 2: case was already isolating. One student on Nov. 30: one class cohort has been directed to isolated. Public Health declared an outbreak on Nov. 29. There are currently eight active cases related to the school. The school remains open and visitors are restricted at this time.

In cases where it has been determined that there is no risk to students or staff, cohorts are not required to isolate and the schools will remain open. Instances when a positive case in a school poses no risk to the school include:

  • The case(s) is learning or teaching virtually and has not been in the school.
  • The case(s) was already isolating and not attending school because they were previously identified as a close contact of a case.
  • The case(s) was not present at the school when they were infectious. 

KFL&A Public Health works closely with schools to ensure that necessary steps are taken to prevent further spread of the virus both in the school and the community.

All families should continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and screen students daily as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting. KFL&A Public Health is also asking families to use the extended symptom list for monitoring symptoms:
Fever (37.8°C/100°F) and/or chills 
Cough or barking cough
Shortness of breath
Decrease or loss of taste or smell
Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea 
Fatigue 
Muscle aches and pain
Sore throat
Difficulty swallowing
Runny or stuffy nose
Abdominal pain
Headache
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Decreased or lack of appetite

Cases in schools must be reported locally and provincially. We are sharing this information with you to ensure you have accurate information. No further information will be released to maintain privacy.
