Positive Case of COVID-19 Week of Nov. 29

KFL&A Public Health has notified the Limestone District School Board of positive cases of COVID-19 at the following area schools for the week of November 29 - December 5, 2021:

  • Two cases in students at Molly Brant Elementary School on Dec. 1: these cases were already isolating. Three cases in students on Nov. 30: two cases are already isolating and one case has resulted in one class cohort being directed to isolate. Total number of cases at the school is now 14 and the school remains in outbreak. The school is open and visitors are restricted at this time.
  • Two students at Welborne Avenue Public School on Dec. 5: these cases were already isolating. Three students on Dec. 4: one case was already isolating and two required two cohort dismissals. Three students on Dec. 2: these cases were already isolating. Three students on Dec. 1: two additional cohorts have been directed to isolate. This brings the current total cases at the school to 15. At this time, there are a total of  class cohorts isolating.
  • One student at J.R. Henderson on Dec. 5: this case was already isolating. One case in a student on Dec. 3: case was already isolating. One student student on Dec. 2: case was already isolating. One student on Nov. 30: one class cohort has been directed to isolated. Public Health declared an outbreak on Nov. 29. There are currently nine active cases related to the school. The school remains open and visitors are restricted at this time.

In cases where it has been determined that there is no risk to students or staff, cohorts are not required to isolate and the schools will remain open. Instances when a positive case in a school poses no risk to the school include:

  • The case(s) is learning or teaching virtually and has not been in the school.
  • The case(s) was already isolating and not attending school because they were previously identified as a close contact of a case.
  • The case(s) was not present at the school when they were infectious. 

KFL&A Public Health works closely with schools to ensure that necessary steps are taken to prevent further spread of the virus both in the school and the community.

All families should continue to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and screen students daily as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting. KFL&A Public Health is also asking families to use the extended symptom list for monitoring symptoms:
Fever (37.8°C/100°F) and/or chills 
Cough or barking cough
Shortness of breath
Decrease or loss of taste or smell
Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea 
Fatigue 
Muscle aches and pain
Sore throat
Difficulty swallowing
Runny or stuffy nose
Abdominal pain
Headache
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Decreased or lack of appetite
