LDSB Secondary Virtual School

Limestone Learning Foundation

Welcome to the Limestone District School Board’s Secondary Virtual School for the 2021-2022 school year! This page will be updated regularly with important information for students and families. Please make note of daily schedule, contact information and technical help support in the right-hand menus.

The Secondary Virtual School will use a quadmester system for at least the first half of the school year just like in-person school. Students will take one course all morning (8:30-11 a.m.) and one course all afternoon (12-2:30 p.m.). Quadmester 1 runs from Tuesday, September 7, 2021, to Friday, November 12, 2021.

Courses for Quadmester 1 will appear on students' Minds Online home page by the morning of September 7. Students will be able to access/enter their Quadmester 1 morning course starting at 8:30 a.m. on September 7. Access to Quadmester 1 afternoon courses will begin at 12 p.m. on September 7.

Students registered with the Secondary Virtual School should be checking their LDSB Outlook email account at least once per day.

Secondary Virtual School Structure:

Morning teachers will be available from 8:30- 11 a.m. and afternoon teachers will be available from 12-2:30 p.m. Students are expected to be prepared for the day's learning and to be logged in at the start of their morning and afternoon classes. Secondary Virtual School daily announcements will be shared by teachers at the start of each morning class. Classes will begin with the teacher overviewing the tasks and timelines for the day, checking in on students' progress, answering any questions students might have, etc. Students will then work on assignments, participate in class activities, and touch base with their teacher. Students are expected to spend at least 5 to 7 hours per school day (both online and offline) working on their two courses. Students are encouraged to keep caught up, and to let their teacher know as soon as possible if they are falling behind. Teachers will share their contact information with students and families.

Technical Resources/Support

Students and parents/guardians are asked to please review the video conferencing guides (right-hand menu) in advance. Students and families are also encouraged to review the Technical Support document (right-hand menu) and visit the Virtual School/Remote Learning Technology Support webpage

A Chromebook, laptop (PC or Mac), desktop computer or tablet/iPad are all suitable devices. If you do not have access to a device, please contact the Secondary Virtual School by email or call 613-542-7369. The distribution of technology will be facilitated through the Secondary Virtual School.

Internet access will be provided to students who are learning remotely and do not currently have access (where service is available). If you do not have access to internet, please contact the Secondary Virtual School by email or call 613-542-7369. We will work with you to coordinate a suitable solution (e.g. an Internet Hotspot) if required.
