Access to Information

Limestone Learning Foundation

Information about the Limestone District School Board can be found on this website. If you are looking for information that cannot be found on the Board website, you may request the information by contacting the Board Education Centre.

Occasionally, if an information request is particularly complex or sensitive, it may require a more formal process. In that case, you can request access to information by submitting a request citing the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Students and parents/guardians can request access to information held by the Board by contacting the principal of the school their child attends. Please be aware that while an individual has access to their own personal information and general records, they do not have access to information about other individuals. While a student is under the age of 18 and is not living independently, the parent or guardian retains a right of access to their child's information. The principal will provide you with the information you request if you are legally entitled to receive a copy of it. If you are not granted access to it, you have the right to make a formal request for information under the
Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

In addition, the $5.00 fee is for the request form only. There are fees associated with making a request for information under the Act. When documents are requested, $7.50 is charged for every 15 minutes of search time, computer data retrieval, and document preparation. Document copies are charged at the rate of .20 cents per page. Postage or shipping charges may also apply. Fees are not charged for the time required to locate and prepare records for personal information requests.

Timeline for receiving the requested information

Legislation allows the Board 30 days to respond to information requests. On occasion, we may ask for an extension if the request is for an extensive number of records. Extra time may also be needed if an outside third party needs to be contacted, of if the request is received during the summer months when certain school staff may not be accessible.

Corporate Retention Schedule

The Limestone District School follows a Corporate Retention Schedule to direct staff in the creation, retention and disposition of records. When making a Freedom of Information request, the person making the request should be aware that information from a specific time frame may no longer be available due to it being disposed of as per our retention timelines. Please review the document to ensure that the information you are requesting is still available.
